Jiangzhong Hougu

I was born during a time of extreme poverty in China and grew up during the era of reform and opening up. After I became an adult, the Chinese economy began to develop rapidly and has since become the world's second largest economy. There is no doubt that I have benefited from these changes.

 

After retiring at the age of 40, I wasted time singing, making movies, and wandering around. However, one day, a colleague in the advertising industry named Xu Li invited me to discuss the brand communication of the "Jiangzhong Hougu" health food brand commissioned by Mr. Zhong Hongguang. This made me start to doubt my retired life.

 

Mr. Zhong Hongguang founded the well-known Jiangzhong Pharmaceutical Group when he was young. After retiring with honor in 2014, he started a new business and launched the "Jiangzhong Hougu" health food brand. Although the process was not as smooth as expected, many interesting stories happened. Mr. Zhong Hongguang is 20 years older than me, but he is more energetic and full of expectations for the future than I am. In comparison, my life seems very pale and monotonous. This contrast makes me feel ashamed and I have started to think seriously about the question: am I just going to waste away like this in my retirement?

 

I decided to express this change in mentality, which led to the creation of this film. I hope to provide another perspective on how people in China are dealing with the long retirement years amidst the social changes that are happening. The film aims to explore how people are finding ways to cope with retirement in their own unique ways.
